About the Project
Latin Inscriptions of Ireland is an all-island, crowd-sourced project run by Dr Charlie Kerrigan, Assistant Professor in Latin at Trinity College, Dublin. It invites you, members of the public, to take a photograph of some Latin in your area and send it in. Your inscription will be translated into English and the entries compiled into a free, online, database.
This project is independently run and does not receive currently funding or sponsorship. It is not affiliated with Trinity College, Dublin, and responsibility for all content rests with Dr Kerrigan.
About Me
Over the last few years I’ve been learning about ancient Roman inscriptions and graffiti, and reflecting on how much our modern towns and cities are covered in the same thing. My previous research projects include a study of Virgil’s Georgics (for academic readers) and a short history of Latin as a living language (for students and general readers). I also work with schools and community groups.
